NXP Semiconductors I2C General Purpose I/O Expanders

NXP Semiconductors I2C General Purpose I/O Expanders provide GPIO expansion for most microprocessor families, allowing designers to save the GPIOs on microprocessors for other important functions. Designers can utilize the microprocessor GPIOs for important functions and use the I/O expander for other duties, including system monitoring, ACPI power switches, sensors, push buttons, LEDs, fans, and more. NXP GPIO expanders are ideal for adding fan and LED control to systems. They are also ideal for monitoring system functions and accepting push-button inputs.

Features

  • Provides GPIO expansion for most microprocessor families
  • Includes INT output used to signal the microcontroller when any of the inputs change state (1 to 0, or 0 to 1)
  • May include RESET input or RESET and OE input
  • RESET used to initialize the device to its default state without de-powering it
  • OE used to "Hi-Z" the outputs without having to use I2C commands
  • Package options:
    • HVQFN-16
    • HWQFN-24
    • TSSOP-8
    • TSSOP-16
    • TSSOP-24
    • VFBGA-24
    • XQFN-8
    • XQFN-16
  • Unique Features of "Agile I/O" Versions
    • Backward-compatible with industry-standard versions
    • New registers to control configurable features
    • Input latch locks in any changes on input pins until the input port register is read
    • Programmable pull-up or pull-down resistors
    • Output drive strength selectable to ¼, ½, ¾ or max to conserve battery power and reduce power-supply noise when simultaneous outputs switch
    • Interrupt mask to limit interrupt sources
    • Interrupt status register shows interrupt source
    • Output selection of open-drain or push-pull configuration
