Infineon Technologies TLE987x 3-Phase Motor/Relay Driver ICs
Infineon TLE987x 3-Phase Motor/Relay Driver ICs are automotive-qualified System-on-Chip (SoC) devices specifically designed to provide space-efficient solutions for mechatronic BLDC motor-drive applications, including field-oriented control. These single-chip devices integrate the industry-standard ARM® Cortex®-M3 core to enable the implementation of advanced motor-control algorithms. The TLE987x devices also feature six fully integrated NFET drivers optimized to drive a 3-phase motor using six external power NFETs. A charge pump enables low-voltage operation. TLE987x’s programmable current, along with current-slope control, optimize EMC performance. The peripheral set includes a current sensor, a successive approximation ADC synchronized with the capture and compare unit for PWM control, and 16-bit timers. An integrated LIN transceiver allows communication to the device along with a number of general-purpose I/Os.Offered as part of the Infineon® Embedded Power IC portfolio, the TLE987x offers Flash memory and MCU system clock frequency scalability. This scalability allows the TLE987x devices to support a wide range of sensor-based or sensor-less motor control algorithms. The TLE987x 3-Phase Motor Drivers share the same MCU and peripherals as the TLE986x 2-Phase Motor Drivers to offer design synergy between DC and BLDC motor-control applications. TLE987x is a highly integrated automotive (grade-1 & grade-0) qualified device enabling cost and space-efficient solutions for mechatronic BLDC motor drive applications such as pumps and fans.
Key Benefits
- Enable cost and board space improvements – Infineon's system-on-chip solution integrates data processing, actuation, and sensing. The chip comes in a leadless VQFN package with 7mm x 7mm footprint and enables PCB space saving. The TLE987x family allows driving MOSFETS at VBATT ≥ 6V without external components, providing a very cost-effective solution on a system level.
- Enabling high levels of system reliability – Extensive diagnostics and protections are embedded within the system-on-chip, more than a discrete approach can offer. In addition, both the Embedded Power IC and the external MOFESTS can be protected.
- Support multiple and flexible designs with minimal effort – All TLE986x and TLE987x devices are pin and software compatible, maximizing a single design through scalability.
