Use USB Faster with the Cypress EZ USB FX3 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit Available from Mouser

February 17, 2015 - Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking the EZ-USB® FX3™ USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit from Cypress Semiconductor. This Explorer Kit includes all the hardware, software, and documentation necessary to enable developers to evaluate the Cypress EZ-USB® FX3™, an ARM‑based USB 3.0 peripheral controller. USB 3.0 offers the SuperSpeed signaling rate of 5 Gigabits per second, ten times greater than the USB 2.0 high-speed signaling rate of 480 megabits per second.

The Cypress EZ-USB FX3 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit, available from Mouser Electronics, allows developers to add USB 3.0 SuperSpeed connectivity to any design. The development board provides convenient access to all FX3 IC interfaces. Two 40-pin headers allow the FX3 to connect to external boards using the Cypress's 2^nd generation General Programming Interface (GPIF‑II). These headers use long pins that can also be used as test points. The board can connect to external devices such as FPGAs, CPLDs, image sensors, or microcontrollers. The FX3 Software Development Kit (SDK) includes example code to help learn how to program and evaluate the FX3. The SuperSpeed Explorer kit easily interfaces to Altera FPGAs as well as image sensor peripheral boards.

The USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit development board provides two USB connectors. The USB 3.0 Type‑B connector brings out the FX3 USB signals. This connector can accept either a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 connector. A USB 2.0 Micro-B receptacle interfaces to an onboard Cypress CY7C65215 USB‑Serial Dual Channel UART/I2C/SPI Bridge, which is configured as the board's integrated debugger operating at the USB 2.0 Full-Speed rate. This chip provides a bridge between the FX3 debug interface and a PC's USB port, enabling serial terminal message debugging as well as JTAG debugging.

The kit also includes the Cypress EZ USB Suite, ARM GCC toolchain, FX3 firmware library, and example projects. Also included is the Cypress USB Suite and sample Microsoft Visual Studio applications. A USB 3.0 cable is included.
